What if I told you that you could get into fantastic cardio shape by doing as little as four minutes of exercise? Sound too good to be true? Not when it comes to Tabata training. Tabata training has been around for a very long time but has recently been gaining more and more popularity in the fitness industry. Tabata training is a short but very intense type of training workout that improves your aerobic capacity as well as your ability to burn fat long after you have finished your workout. It generally consists of eight high-intensity 20-second intervals, each followed by a 10-second recovery. This may sound easy on paper but trust me it is not!

I have created Tabatacise to reflect this type of Tabata training. The workout consists of five different four-minute Tabata workouts. Each of the five Tabata workouts is followed by a step recovery blast. Since your maximum heart rate will often exceed 90%, I have included these recovery blasts to help bring your heart rate down in a more controlled manner. But beware, there is just a teeny, tiny blast hidden in those recovery periods. Because Tabatacise is so tough, I suggest you gradually work up to doing it in stages or levels. With each new level you attempt, you'll add one new additional Tabata to your routine working up to a total of five Tabatas. By the way, you may choose to never do Tabatacise in its entirety which is totally fine, too. Another bonus is that it can be used as an add-on to any of your other workouts when you're looking for a quick, intense bonus challenge to take a workout to a new height.

And remember as with any workout it is important that you listen to your body at all times and stop whenever you feel light headed or too winded to continue.

5 of 5 Love It July 10, 2016

I love this workout, it is tough and time FLIES.  The music is great, very motivating and fun.  I actually do not pull my step out for this even though it is used in the video for the cardio blasts in between the tabatas.  The Tabatas kick my butt so much that I just do the blasts on the floor!  I have had this video since it has come out and it still feels fresh, definitely one of my favorites in the cardio category.

4 of 5 Cathe Xtrain Tabatacise July 18, 2014

This DVD has excellent options depending on how much you want to do.

There are five Tabata drills and in each drill you are doing 4 exercises for 20 seconds and you get a 10 second break in between the exercises. Then there is a step blast recovery. You repeat all this for a second round before moving onto the next Tabata.

Tabatacise is a tough one. The 10 second rest fly by.
Cathe does include a countdown climber that counts down the 20 seconds of work and that countdown the 10 seconds of rest
Sometimes, the counter is not always in sync with Cathe.

I love that you can workup to 5 tabatas . Really a wonderful challenge and I love the use of step in the recovery period. She uses music to push you to your max. A fantastic sweaty workout that will make you fitter than fit.

5 of 5 What a workout July 9, 2014
Reviewer: Bells
I love this workout and do it often.  Versatile with the premixes, but I often do the full workout in one shot plus the abs section.  Great cardio-It is high impact.  What used to be known as the blast intervals (7-ups, swims, side straddles) are now the catch-your-breath portion.  In between each of the 5 tabata sets you do use your stepper for the catch-your-breath portion, however, I use this workout on travel a lot - just have a pretend step for those portions.  Great music, great variety and is over before you know it.

5 of 5 Another Favorite July 9, 2014
Reviewer: Suzanne from Arlington, VA United States
When I first did this workout, I was a bit frightened. However, after having a solid aerobic base from doing Cathe's HIIT, To The Max, and CrossFire, I found this workout challenging but very doable. The first level is the toughest, so once you get through that one, you can enjoy the rest!  Love the variety in the levels and the step blasts in the recovery sections. This one is a must for anyone who loves intense cardio.
