Description

Nepal Series:

Trekking through Nepalese Himalayas en route to Mr. Everest it is inescapable to notice the majestic snowcapped peaks that are famous among hikers and climbers. Join TrekFit and hike with us into the rarified air of Nepal and Mt. Everest – without leaving your own comfort zone and without the extensive physical training necessary to hike this unique landscape. As this expedition normally takes 2 weeks to trekkers to acclimatize, the standard trekking routes are followed from one city while immersing the viewer in the rugged landscape that steadily leads to Mt. Everest—the Top of the World.

Treks available in this Series include:

• Lukla (Part 1): Situated in the heart of the Himalayas at 9,383 feet, Lukla is the starting point for climbers and trekkers seeking adventurous exploits. The Tenzing-Hillary Airport dominates the landscape and is considered the most dangerous airport in the world given its very short and steep airstrip and frequent immersion in clouds. Trekking supplies are limited, so most stock up in Kathmandu (1 hour).

• Ghat (Part 2): A small outcropping on the lush mountainous hillside that serves as a nice stopping point on your way to Namche Bazar (48 minutes).

• Phakding (Part 3): Leaving Ghat towards Phakding, one hugs the river until crossing to the west over a suspension bridge (1 hour).

• Monjo (Part 4): This trek heads from Monjo towards Namche Bazar and provides stunning sites, The official entrance into Sagarmatha National Park is encountered on the way to Jorsale (1 hour).

• Namche Bazar (Part 5): This trek arrives at Namche Bazar, the main trading center and tourist hub in the Khumbu region. The village is located on crescent shaped slopes that offer spectacular views of the marketplace, stupa, and mountains across the valley. At an altitude of 11,286 feet at its lowest point, Namche provides an ideal place to acclimatize and most trekkers will stay two nights here before heading higher towards Everest of Gokyo Ri (47 minutes) .

• Khumjung (Part 6): Khumjung is the halfway point of a circular trek that passes counter-clockwise from Namche. Along this trek, one experiences major drop-offs on the right side on the way to the Everest View Hotel. Famous mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary founded the regions largest school, Hillary School, in 1961 (1 hour).

• Khunde (Part 7): This trek provides scenic vista passing numerous mani stones inscribed with the six syllabled Tibetan Buddist mantra of Avalokiteshvara (Om mani padme hum). As one nears Namche for the evening, trekkers are surrounded in billowing clouds at eye level (37 minutes)

• Dole (Part 8): This is the first leg towards the Summit of Gokyo Ri, which provides one of the best views of Everest (40 minutes).

• Gokyo (Part 9): This trek provides an otherworldly view along the side of the worlds highest freshwater lakes, which are considered sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. The village is situated at 15,720 feet and its nearby summit, Gokyo Ri, provides unobstructed views of Everest (1 hour 18 minutes).

• Gokyo Ri (Part 10): Gokyo Ri stands 17,575 feet above sea level on the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest in the Himalayas. From the summit, trekkers can see a birds eye view of Gokyo and five 8,000 meter peaks: Mount Everest, Lhtose, Makalu, Kangchenjunga, and Cho Oyu (6 minutes).

• Glacier (Part 11): This trek negotiates the Ngozumpa Glacier and its numerous tributaries of melting snow. Eventually trekkers reach Dragnag, a small hamlet (34 minutes).

• Tengboche (Part 12): This trek begins at an important Buddhist monastery, Tengboche Monastery, which was destroyed from a fire in 1989 and subsequently rebuilt. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, an inhabitant of this village, were the first to reach the summit of Everest in 1953. This trek begins under tree cover then opens to narrows trail carved into the hillside (53 minutes).
