3 of 5 Love the squat segment February 21, 2017
Reviewer: Janine from Melbourne, VIC Australia
I would not want to to this dvd from start to finish as I think the voice over would start to grate, but I do love to pick a segment and do it other some other cardio.
I will do the squat segment after 30 minutes on the rower to finish off my work out, that one is my favourite.

1 of 5 Terrible. Very badly organized July 8, 2016
Reviewer: Sue A from Arlington, VA United States
This is one of the most poorly organized workouts I've ever seen.  Play All gets you to a long segment about Sylwia, then jumps you (literally) into jumping jacks with no warmup or prep.  Then come the toning segments abruptly with no transition.  The main menu has a Warmup option,  but the moves look like cool down and stretch.

Some of the moves are good,  but overall this one doesn't work for me.

4 of 5 Good workout March 12, 2016
Reviewer: Tipi from Annapolis, MD United States
This was my first experience with Tonique.  I agree with one of the other reviewers who suggested doing the workout in chapters.  I did the whole thing and got a great toning and cardio workout.  Sometimes when Sylwia changed her position, it was hard to tell what she was doing at the new angle.  She is in great shape and the workout was good.  I found the voiceovers a bit irritating at times.

5 of 5 Classic workout July 25, 2014
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Sterling, VA United States
I feel that Tonique Premier has become a workout classic, at this point.  If you are new to Tonique and Sylwia's amazing workouts, and wondering where to start, I would recommend this workout. It is well chaptered and can easily be broken up and tackled one segment at a time. In fact, that's probably the best way to do it. If you're not accustomed to doing a million lunges and squats and you complete this workout in one go, you might not be able to walk for a few days. Even has an advanced exerciser who has done all of Cathe's hardest lower body workouts regularly, Tonique gave me pause.  There is a voice over that does all of the narration and cuing which some do not like, but I don't find it distracting or think that it detracts from the video. Your mileage may vary, however.  But, if you are looking for a challenging lower body workout that will tone buns and thighs, this is an absolute winner. Very effective. You just have to be ready and willing to work hard.

4 of 5 Cardio, cardio, cardio July 11, 2014
Reviewer: MSU from Monroe, NC United States
I know this is supposed to be a toning workout, but more than anything to me, it is a killer cardio workout. I prefer heavier weight training, so this is great on a cardio day and doesn't require much space. There is a bit of dread factor, so if endless lunges and squats are a no go for you, than this probably isn't the Tonique to try. It packs a wallop and has to burn a lot of calories, judging from the sweat factor.

5 of 5 Vintage Tonique July 10, 2014
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Pittsburgh
This DVD is a great intro to Tonique, but I prefer Sylwia's most recent DVDs as she's evolved to much more creative and challenging moves. That being said, this is an excellent DVD. Sylwia starts off with some high impact drills, then moves to squats, lunges, and follows it up with mat work at the end. (Sylwia suggests repeating the drills between each section.) The DVD is chaptered very well, so it's easy to pick a section as an add on. The voiceover, while hilarious, is not Sylwia and I usually just mute it so I can play my own music. I recommend this one to Tonique newbies or anyone looking to build up to the newer DVDs.

4 of 5 Made me a Tonique Fan July 9, 2014
Reviewer: Bells
This is the first Tonique I tried & wasn’t sure what quite to expect.  I love it!  I used two 3-lb weights.  This workout has 3 sections.  The 1st section is standing & is mainly different kinds of squats w/ hand weights.  I would categorize this section as mainly cardio w/ leg toning (some arm toning just from the arm movements).  The 2nd section is Floor & is mainly leg lifts, hydrants, etc.  I would categorize this section as leg toning & no cardio or arm toning.  The 3rd section is an ab section.  64 minutes total.  While doing section 1 & 2, I felt some minor DOMS on the side of my butt, but was not sore the next day.  I found the video a bit hard to follow the first time I did it because of the angles of the camera.  I couldn’t tell if the instructor was doing back lunges or diagonal lunges; front lunges or 45 degree lunges, etc.  However, the 2nd time I did the video I was able to figure it out faster.  My HR monitor said I burned 549 cal, avg HR of 132 and max HR of 155.

5 of 5 So Glad I Got It!! June 25, 2014
Reviewer: Aida Woodard from Teaneck, NJ United States
This is an excellent workout for your legs and glutes. I wanted to target my lower body more. Sylwia will beat your lower body to death so be prepared! I almost didn't purchase this because of the voice over which at times can be cheesey and corny. I do not feel the squats are too difficult and can usually get through these. However the lunges can be a bit challenging especially with the hand weights. I find that I can do some lunges better without the weights. At least for now. My suggestion is to do some of the lunges without hand weights until you are used to the move. By the time you get to the mat work you might be quite tired. Sometimes I continue on or go yo it later in the day if I know I'll have free time. All in all this a great workout for the lower body and a great intro into the Tonique Method. I am starting to feel muscle already. I plan to do this three times a week until u master it then continue to her other more advanced workouts. Highly recommended!

5 of 5 Love this workout! March 30, 2014
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from PR
I cannot even begin to mention how much I loved doing this workout for the first time.  I usually lift heavy weights, Cathe Friedrich is my main choice, but I also like Jari Love, Tony Horton, and Chalean Johnson, among many others.  I wanted something different, still advanced and challenging, but more focused on high rep/lower weights.  This workout delivered that and then some.  I love the set, the music, and I don't even mind the voice over.  I also love the fact that it has chapters and I can choose which part I want to do in any order or do mat one day and standing work another day.  Highly recommended, but with a warning, there are hundreds of squats and lunges, so a person with knee issues might want to skip this one.

5 of 5 Loved This Workout! July 25, 2013
Reviewer: Hilary from Lexington, KY United States
Great lower body workout! Sylwia looks amazing. The voice-over was annoying; way too chirpy for 5:30 AM, and there was too much focus on "great buns coming your way" and "think how other people will react to your butt" for my taste. But this is just a plain and simple sweatfest performing all sorts of squats and lunges with light weights. The matwork is fine, but brief. The description doesn't mention the Drills ... about five minutes of jumping jacks, jogging in place, side-to-side lunges, etc. No Burpees! I don't do the drills first thing but they work well if you stick them later. The DVD is nicely chaptered. Best thing is that I feel like I'm getting a cardio workout but also toning. All in all, this is a workout I look forward to doing, although I sometimes question why when I'm in the middle of it! No dread factor for me, but you may need to stick in a few extra pauses because she moves fast and the focus on the lower body means your legs and glutes never get a break.
