I'm sure this DVD is effective...the moves are pretty basic and she does plenty of reps to make it tough enough but I found it to be too boring.

A solid workout full of (mostly) classic toning exercises.

The best thing about the workout is that you can select which segments you want to do from the Start Menu.  Additionally, I like the aesthetics of the workout the white on white is visually pleasing.  The music is enjoyable; it’s nice to have a ballet workout with classical music.  Additionally, I find the arm segment unique; you get a good burn without weights.  So there's a good amount I enjoy about this workout.  What keeps this from being a 4 or 5-star workout is that wish the instructor was more engaging.  She gives good form pointers (which I appreciate); I just would like a smile and some encouraging words once in a while.

4 of 5 Whew July 15, 2014
Reviewer: Suzanne from Arlington, VA United States
This is a great addition to my barre workout collection. I did only the leg-focused and standing segments. For the mat work, Mary-Helen does four sets of eight reps for each exercise, and she counts the reps. I found the latter extremely helpful because I could gauge whether or not I could finish the exercise (I had to take rests a few times). The exercises are not fancy, but they are intense. I would have appreciated more thigh/quad work, particularly since she has awesome thighs. I liked the standing segment and wished it were longer.  My only beef is that she did not provide modifications for the stretches. There is no way I could ever pull my leg over my head!

5 of 5 Tough, effective toning July 12, 2014

This is an excellent, effective DVD. I like Mary Helen, she is quietly supportive and I like how she counts the reps so I know exactly how many I have left. This workout is well chaptered so you can do it in sections or all at once. The previous reviewers mentioned the killer bridge section - I love it! The inner thigh section is also great, and the ab section always does me in. Actually, every section is tough but enjoyable. I love the set and the ballerina vibe. The only negative is that there could be more stretching - I always add more in. A great DVD!

5 of 5 Much Harder Than It Looks! July 6, 2014
Reviewer: Ruth Rousseau from Ottersberg, Niedersachsen Germany
This was  the first Mary Helen Bowers' dvd I tried and I must say I didn't think it would be for me. A friend leant it to me so I gave it a go, and I'm glad!
Mary Helen Bowers is perfect for days when you want something gentle, quiet and effective.  The short segments deliver the burn!
My favorites on this DVD are the outer thighs and bridge series.  Like the previous reviewer, I can barely make it through the bridge series without a few brief rests.
Mary Helen counts every single rep, which may annoy some people.  I find it helps me get into the workout better.
I think this DVD is good for anyone, beginner or advanced.

5 of 5 Targets Problem Areas! July 3, 2014
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from OR United States
This workout does a fantastic job of targeting specific areas. My favorites are the bridge series, inner thighs, and outer thighs. Mary Helen has an elegant presence and instructs well. She keeps count so you don't have to turn your head to watch her in bridge pose. It's a challenge to do all the reps without sneaking a brief rest now and then. She stretches really quickly between exercises within a section, but you can always pause or take an extra long stretch at the end. You may need it!
