Yoga Journal's Yoga Step-by-Step Session 3: Balancing Poses for Focus & Energy.

From the editors of Yoga Journal, each complete session in the Yoga Step-by Step video series will help you develop and grow your own home practice. Featuring acclaimed yoga teacher Natasha Rizopoulos.

On each video:

  • 35-minute active instructional session
  • PLUS 20-minute flowing workout
  • Poses suitable for advanced beginners
  • Exclusively on DVD:

  • Follow along with Natasha or her assistant Jason, who demonstrates modified poses for less flexible people.- Understand the benefits of each yoga pose with medical commentary by Yoga Journal's medical editor, Timothy McCall, M.D.
  • Learn alignment principles and correct common mistakes with Yoga Chalk Talk, our exclusive "live drawing board."
  • Develop focus and energy through a sequence of inversions and arm balances. Although these poses can be challenging, Natasha will show you how to attain positions that you might not think are possible-and she will show you how to do so safely. When you are upside down, you'll not only receive the health benefits of reversing the flow of gravity, you'll see the world in a whole new way. Third in the Yoga Step-by-Step series.

5 of 5 Great for working on inversions October 30, 2011

If you're working toward handstand (like I am) or toward headstand, this is a great video. There are two practices - the 20-minute one includes warm-up, some prep poses, and the inversions; the 35-minute one is the same sequence, but with extra instruction and demonstration - and I use that instruction/demo time to spend more time working on the inversion poses. The prep poses and instruction are quite good. I got this DVD in one of Mary's sales awhile back, and I think it's an underrated gem.

    4 of 5 Advanced is right! November 9, 2010
Reviewer: Sarah Doss from Boerne, TX United States
I gave this 3 stars although I didn't actually try the workout. Those hand stand postures would take me a lifetime of practice just to build up the strength to do them.

Although this is listed as an advanced workout I was misled by the title "The Total Guide to Beginning Your Home Practice."

Don't get this workout unless you are very advanced and have extremely strong arms and shoulders!

That said, it appears to be very well put together with good production values. The instructor is quite good.
